OutCast Audition

What:  Nov. 13-29 production of
A BENCH IN THE SHADE directed by Amanda Goodwin at OCP.

When:  6 pm to 7:30 pm Wednesday, Sept. 16

Where: The Black Box Theater at the Fairgrounds in Langley

A Bench in the Shade Roles:

Plot:  Annie and Paul were once engaged many years ago and now reside at the Seaside Heights Manor Retirement Community somewhere in New Jersey. Annie is intrigued by the arrival of Italian actor, Roberto. The senior romance is impeded by the news of the retirement home being sold.

Annie: A woman in her 60's-70's who is chic, energetic and was engaged to Paul many years ago. Full of vibrant energy and sharp wit. Unlike some of her peers, Annie refuses to let age slow her down or diminish her zest for life. She carries herself with confidence but maintains a strong sense of warmth and vulnerability.

Paul:  A rather crusty gentleman in his 60's-70's residing at Seaside Heights Manor and who shares a past engagement with Annie. Paul is set in his ways. His comfortable, predictable routine is completely disrupted by Annie. Their unresolved past creates immediate tension. He uses a cynical exterior as a shield; especially when dealing with his past.

Roberto - A charismatic Italian newcomer to Seaside Heights Manor. He claims to have been a famous film star during his youth. Roberto is dashing, charming, and highly confident. He is well aware of his appeal and exploits his charm to win over the residents, particularly the women. A subtle hint of an Italian accent (but he's really from Hoboken).

Roberto can be anywhere from the late 50's to mid 70's.

Audition:  Please come prepared to do a cold reading from the script.

Rehearsals start in early October, and the show runs Nov. 13-29.
